📊 What is your opinion of TIKTOK?

In this post you will learn about everything related to TikTok, the popular Chinese application that is fashionable among young people and adults. Before answering the main question, we want to give you details about its origin, number of users, what it is for, among other interesting information.

TikTok belongs to ByteDance, a Chinese technology company founded in 2012, similar to Facebook, since it has a range of social media applications in the Asian giant such as FlipChat, Douyin … as well as the company directed by Zuckerberg (WhatsApp, Instagram, among others).

ByteDance is valued at $ 75 billion, making it the most valuable startup in the world, according to CB Insights.

How was TikTok born?

In mid-September 2016, ByteDance launched “Douyin”, a short video app only for China. From that moment on, the application became known and its popularity grew. A year later, Douyin had 100 million users and 1 billion video views per day.

In September 2017, Douyin expanded outside of China and changed its name to TikTok. It quickly became successful in Asian countries like Japan and Thailand, among others. As TikTok began to gain worldwide fame, another short video app was already positioned in the US market: Musical.ly, a 15-second lip-sync music video platform. This app was so popular that by the summer of 2015 it reached # 1 on the App Store.

In November 2017, ByteDance acquired Musical.ly for $ 1 billion. As of this moment, the Chinese company had two short video applications: Musical.ly and TikTok; the first focused on the United States, and the second on other international markets.

In August 2018, ByteDance reported the closure of Musical.ly and said that all accounts on that platform would automatically switch to TikTok. From this moment its boom began. By December of that year, it reached six million downloads in that month alone, according to Sensor Tower.

Why has TikTok been successful?

It is an application so easy to use that for a child of nine years they are not complicated. Another plus point is that it provides a set of tools to the user such as selecting a wide variety of sounds such as songs of the moment, extracts from TV shows, YouTube videos, filters, effects and animations. It also allows you to join a challenge, be in a dance meme, or perform a prank.

It is a combination of various social networks such as Snapchat, Vine and Instagram for their stories.
